Atkinson Signed Giclee
In 2018, Steve Atkinson created this painting to raise money for Boys to Men Mentoring North Central AZ.
In words from the artist, here is the story behind the image.
"The annual fundraiser includes a single fine art raffle. When I was invited to support Boys to Men, I had to answer the call. Hence, the creation of the original oil painting "Boys to Men".
The central figure in this scene is Chief David Bald Eagle, and was a tribal chief. He was something of a legend in the native community and died a few years back at age 97. I was fortunate to get to meet and photograph him. He was a bronc rider up into his 60's, he was a movie extra and appeared in many westerns, somewhere around 40 movies, including Dances with Wolves. He fought in World War II, where he fought at Anzio and parachuted into Normandy on D-day, where he was wounded and awarded a purple heart. Native tribes were well known for their emphasis on raising good men and considered it the job of everyone, especially the elders to help teach the younger men and boys how to be better men. That is exactly what this scene is all about and I think it's perfect for Boys to Men."
